Princethorpe Pupils Rise To The Intermediate Mathematics Challenge

04 Feb

Four pupils were awarded Gold certificates in this year's Intermediate Maths Challenge.

Back in January, pupils from Princethorpe College showcased their mathematical prowess by taking part in the 2025 UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) Intermediate Challenge. This prestigious national competition is designed to challenge and inspire young problem-solvers across the country. Open to pupils in Years 9, 10, and 11, the competition involves answering multiple-choice questions under formal exam conditions, with papers subsequently marked by the UKMT. The highest-achieving participants are awarded Bronze, Silver, or Gold Certificates, recognising their exceptional mathematical ability.

This year, 72 talented Princethorpe pupils were selected to participate in the challenge, demonstrating their aptitude and perseverance in tackling complex mathematical problems. The College is delighted to announce that its pupils performed exceptionally well, achieving outstanding results. In total, four pupils were awarded Gold certificates, 16 achieved Silver certificates and a further 27 received Bronze certificates.

A special congratulations goes to Daniel in Year 11, who not only secured a prestigious Gold certificate but also earned the accolade of best-performing pupil in the school. In addition, Daniel, alongside fellow pupils Jay and Oscar, achieved scores high enough to qualify for the next stage of the competition, the highly challenging Intermediate Kangaroo round.

Princethorpe College is immensely proud of all the pupils who took part in this demanding challenge. Their success is a testament to their dedication and hard work, as well as to the excellent support and guidance provided by the school’s Mathematics Department. Well done to all participants!
