Now in its 23rd year, the 70cm class continues this year to open the event up to a wider field of competitors, and the principal sponsors, The Wigley group will be again expanding their viewing area for visitors.
The event takes place across May 25th and 26th at Princethorpe College, near Rugby, and is backed by The Wigley Group, based in nearby Stockton, as its returning principal sponsor.
Bud Jackson, chair of organisers Stoneleigh Riding Club, said: “The 70cm class last year opened up the event to a much wider range of competitors this will continue for 2024, as well as classes at 80cm, 90cm and 100cm.
“Once more this year we are enhancing the offering to spectators, and are really pleased to have the support of The Wigley Group again this year to help us do that.
“This is a key date in the equine calendar for so many school and riding clubs across the country, and this year’s event is already shaping up to be the best one yet.”
The ‘long format’ event encompasses dressage and show-jumping on day one, with roads and tracks, steeplechase and cross-country disciplines running on day two.
The 70cm competitors will have a shortened roads and tracks course which excludes the steeplechase, before moving onto the unique cross-country course designed and built by Lloyd Hunt from LandS Eventing.
Princethorpe Foundation Assistant Head, Alex Darkes, added: “Having been involved for a long time, this is the tenth year that we have hosted this event on the Princethorpe estate and we celebrate our relationship with Stoneleigh Riding Club and The Wigley Group, who have many Princethorpe connections through past pupils.
“We are delighted that we are building again on the success of last year’s 70cm class which broadened the entry, especially to schools’ competitors. Many riders come back year after year.”
Admission for spectators is free, with the event running from 8.30am to 6.30pm on both days.
