Award-winning teen and children’s author, Bali Rai, visited Princethorpe College on Tuesday 11 March to work with our Year 8 pupils.
Across three sessions, Bali spoke about growing up in multi-cultural Britain and what it means to be British today. He talked about the many books he has written and how his stories feature characters that are often ignored by history. He encouraged Year 8 to overcome their prejudices and stereotypes and think of Britishness as one long process of migration and multiculturalism.
Bali led writing workshops, sharing different writing techniques, he explained how to make stories more interesting and exciting, and he provided general advice about becoming a writer. Bali also met with the College’s Book Club answering their questions too.
Year 8 enjoyed engaging with Mr Rai and are looking forward to writing their own stories.
Many thanks to Bali for visiting us and providing Year 8 with such a thought-provoking day.
