Maddie Sykes

I joined Princethorpe in 2008 and completed my A-levels there in 2015. My brother, Sam, also studied in the Sixth Form, and he’s now working as a doctor in Manchester.

I have so many memories of my seven years at the college, including a month spent in Borneo, the many ‘character-building’ Duke of Edinburgh expeditions and, my highlight, organising the Leavers’ Ball at Warwick Castle.

Since leaving Princethorpe, I have been studying medicine at UCL and I hope to graduate as a doctor in 2021! As part of my studies, I was provided with an unexpected chance to return to the college to undertake a research project, for which I chose to investigate the impact of menstruation on school-age girls and I was so grateful when Princethorpe allowed me to conduct my research there. All of the staff and the students who took part were invaluable and the project also allowed me to spend a week back at school - it was like I’d never left!

At university, I’ve been able to get involved in some exciting new activities, including being the managing editor of UCL’s science magazine, Kinesis. I’m also attempting to play squash, although that’s not something I can brag about just yet.

I consider myself very fortunate to have attended Princethorpe and for being one of those people who genuinely loved going to school. I look forward to the OPs' events, where a catch-up with both fellow students and staff is always long overdue
